Let's start from the beginning:

CASANOVA TEMPTATIONS (formerly CASANOVA TEMPTATIONS EDUTAINMENT CONSORTIUM, and until recently CASANOVA TEMPTATIONS EDUTAINMENT CONCERN... we're cutting the fat!) started in January 2004 in Ann Arbor, MI. I'd previously been involved in another zine thing/CDR label called HORRENDOUS FAILURE STUDIOS, but various complications put that whole deal to rest forever (the other dude with his hand in that thing currently runs the harsh noise label STOP/EJECT). Rather than work out said complications, I elected to start CASANOVA TEMPTATIONS with Eliza Godfrey. Weak move, I know, but I think it all worked out for the best...

Inspired by John Olson's AMERICAN TAPES label and its ilk, as well as currently semi-defunct lowest-fi label WE'RE TWINS,the initial intent of CASANOVA TEMPTATIONS was to do LOTS of home recordings and release them in ridiculously small editions. Our (or at least my) interests for the label leaned towards noise tinkerings and weirdo fuckabouts, despite a history of VERY lo-fi-sorta-pop recordings on Horrendous Failure and SNSE (all out of print). Thus came Eliza and my band together, TOTALLY AWESOME, and our first/lauded/only release (which was also the first CASANOVA TEMPTATIONS release): a recording of our first and only show, at the Neutral Zone in Ann Arbor, entitled Pope Applauds Break Dancers. It was released in an edition of 15. Given our goals, a totally auspicious start, right?

Then, Eliza and I both started writing songs, and everyone was writing songs, and the whole "noise/weirdo label" thing fell to the wayside for a long time, kind of*. You know how it goes. Then, Eliza and I stopped dating and, y'know, whatever... so I started doing this whole thing by myself.

CASANOVA TEMPTATIONS has been proud to release material by the likes of ODD CLOUDS, FRED THOMAS, OHIOAN & NATIVE KIN, LORD OF THE YUM-YUM, COTTON MUSEUM (see our links page to learn more), and many more, including all sorts of shit by yrs truly, for whatever that may be worth. It is equally important to note that Casanova Temptations also releases comics and zines from time to time, which is one of several things I'm looking to do more (see below).

I moved to Portland, Oregon in August 2006, but I moved back to Ann Arbor just over a year later. The label keeps following me, so I guess I need to feed it. Like I have anything better to spend my money on, anyway...

God (money) willing, expect in the coming year: MORE VINYL, MORE COMICS, MORE TAPES, MORE ARTS & CRAFTS, (HOPEFULLY) MORE VEGAN BAKED GOODS, and as always, MORE DEEP JAMS FOR THE SPIRIT. Thanks for your time.

LOVE///ACTUAL BIRDS

*That said, after a couple years of too much poppy stuff, I want more than ever to release THE MOST FUCKED noise/psych/weirdo records. I've got my eyes peeled for some killer jammerz... dude, it could be YOU!
